Interesting. I had another site but it was on Japanese animation. In one year's time I had 400,000 hits. But when it comes to kidney's, this site only generated a little over 1000 hits in 1 years time. People aren't signing their donor card because the interest just isn't there. It doesn't effect them personaly until someone they know falls ill. But I want people to understand before it
effects their loved ones. Thank you.

This site is dedicated to kidney failure patients on dialysis and awaiting a transplant! A lot of this site is written from a teenager's point of view who was sick since birth.
That teenager was me. Back in 1990 I felt differently about what I was going through. I didn't deal with my first transplant very well with all the side effects and the changes to my appearance.
Now I am 31 and was on Peritoneal Dialysis but had to switch to Hemo Dialysis in July of 2005 due to peritonitis.I am not the same as I was back then. Now I appreciate my 2nd chance at life and the technology available today to enable me to live for the last 2 1/2 years
while I wait for a kidney to become available. But I wanted to help others going through this for the first time, especially those who are like me who have been sick since birth,
and also those who have had a hard time dealing with the changes in their life due to dialysis and renal failure. But also those having a hard time dealing with this who have had a normal life
and feel like it's all been taken away. We all deal with things differently. Please, let no one judge anyone! This place is here for anyone who needs it!

So many people ask what are the requirements to donate one of their kidneys to me. Please refer to this handbook under the transplant section.
What about 'Blood Type compatibility"? People ask me what about blood type compatibility which is necessary in determining if someone can donate a kidney.
The compatibility testing is determined by drawing your blood and testing it. For blood type compatiblity,
Type A can donate to types A and AB.
Type B can donate to types B and AB.
Type AB can donate to type AB.
Type O can donate to types A, B, AB, and O.
So O is the universal donor while AB is the universal recipient.
